Witnessing

Practical things in Witnessing:

1)      Be prayerful!

This is very essential in witnessing. Pray to ask God to give you somebody to witness to and lead to Him. Ask God, “Which one is the person that You want me to talk to?” When you find out who God wants you to talk to, start a conversation with the person. Don’t jump right into preaching to them. Relate to them, to their needs, as Jesus did with the Samaritan woman in John chapter 4. Then lead up to the Word.

2)      Don’t do it by yourself, find at least one other person to do it with you.

When you witness, it’s not always a good idea to do it by yourself. Find someone you can agree with and go together. And when you approach the person you will be witnessing to, both people shouldn’t talk at the same time. The best way to do it is having one person speak while the other person prays. When you pray, pray in your heart, don’t mumble in front of the person or you’ll scare him/her away. Pray so that the Holy Spirit will open up the person’s heart so he/she can receive the Word your partner is communicating to him/her.

3) Dress up nice, look good, smell good (carry mint or gum with you if necessary)

You want to be appealing in everyway so that you can attract those you are trying to witness to. You don’t want them to be drawn away from you before they get to hear the Word!

4)      Bring everybody to an understanding that everyone sinned and fell short of the glory of God.

Show them there is a wage to sin and that wage is death.

Romans 6:23- “For the wages of sin is death,”

Let them know that there is no one righteous, not even one, no matter how good they might appear to be.

Romans 3:10- “There is none righteous, no, not one;”

Then tell them what God has done for them to deliver them from death and bring them to salvation.

Romans 6:23- “but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 5:8- “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

5)      Become a part of God’s family.

This would be the invitation for someone to come to the house, the Body of Christ.

Romans 10:9- “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

*Remember, we’re not trying to sell religion, we’re trying to show the way to life.

Romans 10:13- “For whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

6)      Once they accept, let them know that there is absolutely no condemnation for them.

Romans 8:1- “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

Let them know that they don’t have to worry about yesterday’s sin anymore because they are set free.

Romans 5:1- “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,”

7)      The question

Ask them if they wish to pray a prayer, and if they agree, lead them to prayer.

 “Father, forgive me, I am a sinner…”

8)      If they refuse, just be nice, don’t get mad. Be kind and loving!

Your response should sound something like, “I’ll still pray for you…if you have any question, you can call me… do you have a Bible? If you do, I encourage you to read it and ask God to reveal it to you. Also, go home and just ask God, ‘are You real?’”
