The word of God

The word of God is the beginning of everything. John 1:1 reads, "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God." Everything we need to know, about life or God, is in the Bible. God is revealed to us through his word. It is extremely important for Christians to know and understand this awesome word.

Being ignorant of God's word is giving Satan a stronghold in our lives. Ignorance is darkness and darkness is the devil's realm.

The holy scriptures are God's language through which we communicate with him. The key to our prayers are in God's word, because His will is revealed through His word.

When you obey God's word, blessings will flow into your life. Since we are incompetent and can't learn his words on our own, God sent us the Holy Spirit to teach us.
His word is a guideline according to which we should live our lives, Psalm 119 states, "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." God's word is refuge to those who turn to it, it will never fail those who seek it.

The word of God helps us grow spiritually and maintains our physical body, it does! Proverbs 4:20-22 reads, "My son, pay attention to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart, for they are life to those who find them and health to a man's whole body."

For us believers, the word of God establishes our life in a firm foundation. Prayer alone does not improve our lives, we need the word. We must not take God's word lightly, after all, it is God speaking to us. Reading the word is something we should do daily.

Don't place your faith in religion, instead place it on Jesus Christ and the living word. Mark 13:31 says, "Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." God's word will never change, it is the same today as it always was and will forever be.

This awesome word is not for us alone, we must pass it on to those around us and the next generation. Deuteronomy 32:46-47 says, "Take to heart all the word I have solemnly declared to you this day, so that you may command all your children to obey carefully all the words of this law. They are not just idle words for you, they are your life."

The word of God is the foundation of a true Christian life. As our body needs nourishment so does our spirit, in order for it to grow.

Our spiritual nourishment comes from the word of God. We must have a strong understanding of the word in order for us to establish a firm foundation in our Christian life.

God's word restores us and renews our soul. 2 Timothy 3:16 reads, "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

It is the word that makes us fit to follow the ways of God. The word of God is given to us for correction so that we may be disciplined, it is given to us for instruction so that we may be guided, it is given to us for doctrine so that we may have a holy principle, and it is given to us for reproof so that we may have a conviction of our sins.

God says in the holy scriptures that if we internalize his word, he will manifest his heart to us.

The word of God gives us a stronger bond with our Lord. John 15:7 reads, "If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish and it will be given to you." Therefore, if we understand and accept God's word in faith, he will be true to meet our needs and wants.

God's word provides us with a picture of God. It is necessary for us to have a right view of God.

Whenever we lack the proper view of God and the truth of the word we start to assume. Assumption opens the door for deception. Therefore, if we know who God is through understanding his word, we won't be deceived by any imitation the enemy sets before us.

It is important for a Christian to interpret the word correctly in order to have an accurate understanding of God. 2 Timothy 2:15 reads, " Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth."

Interpreting and understanding the word of God is the most important task in the life of a Christian. Psalm 119:130 reads, " The unfolding of your words gives light."

Understanding of the word shines a light ahead of us, so that we may see in the darkness of sin and evil.

There are ways in which we can improve our understanding of the word. First and most importantly, we must ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. It is impossible to grasp and understand the word of God with the assistance of the Holy Spirit.

Understanding the difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament is helpful. Some differences between Old and New are, the Old Testament is a prophecy while the New Testament is a fulfillment of prophecy, the Old Testament is under the law while the New Testament is under grace. In the Old Testament God reveals himself through prophets while in the New Testament he reveals himself through his son, Jesus Christ.

It is important to get a wholistic view of the entire bible as we look at individual books and verses. This keeps us from being confined to a limited viewpoint, but allows us to better grasp the intention of a section in the Bible.

We should also consider the five "W's" when we are reading the word of God, who, what, where, when, and why. Asking these five questions leads us to dig deeper until we clarify what we are confused about.

If we run across a verse we have difficulty understanding, we must remember, there are often other verses in the bible that reinforces that particular word.    We should read the God's word to not only please him but to benefit ourselves as well. The word of God is profitable, it is a doorway to God's blessings and the answers to our prayers. All we have to do is take the seed (read the word), water it (obey the word), and God will take care of the rest.
